Meditation Instruction

   If you ended up here because you're looking for meditation instruction then the links may not seem like much help. It's difficult to give much information this way. You can, however, go to the links and find out about whether there are local centers that you might visit.

   You may also find it helpful to check the local Yellow Pages under "meditation" or look around for adult education classes. One problem there is that meditation instruction is like psychotherapy : anyone can hang out a shingle!

   Buddhism in general, and Vajrayana in particular, attempt to circumvent that problem through "lineage", the direct transmission of the teachings from teacher to student, in an unbroken line; a recognized master authorizes students, who then become teachers. In this way the integrity of the teachings is preserved. Hence, you'll find alot of references to schools or sects in the listings. These are various lineages that have developed. Different people have different styles and temperaments and so there are many variations in the Dharma, or teachings of Buddhism.
