The IE MD

A Doctor of Sorts For Internet Explorer

The IE MD is a script-and-webpage utility that provides numerous functions for changing Internet Explorer settings. If you are still using IE there are a number of good reasons to switch to a safer, more flexible, more user-friendly browser - such as Mozilla or Opera.

On the other hand, if you want to use IE, or have no choice in the matter, the IE MD can at least give you better control over IE settings. The IE MD has functions to remove Browser Helper Objects and Browser Extensions. It also provides settings to remove advertising, change the window title, check obscure security settings, etc.

The IE MD is a free utility. This is a program composed of VBScripts and webpages. You can rewrite any of the code to customize the program to your own preferences. The IE MD has been tested to make sure that the functions work but has not been tested extensively or on all Windows versions. You use it at your own risk.

WinXP SP2 Note:
If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed you may find that nothing happens when you attempt to run IE-MD. That is because SP2 restricts the ability of script to run in local webpages. On most systems, when you use IE-MD functions, a warning message will ask whether you want to allow ActiveX controls to run that "may be unsafe". (You must click "Yes" for IE-MD to work.) In WinXP with SP2 there is no warning. "Unsafe" ActiveX will simply be blocked. You will be given no notification, no explanation and no choice in the matter.
The Local Zone IE security will need to be adjusted to remove those new SP2 restrictions if you want to use the IE-MD. There are directions on the help page, which can be accessed from the IE MD front page. (IE-MD is a webpage-based utility that runs in IE. It is structured like a small website.)
